National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Despite all the progress made across the globe, this is still a significant problem.

Most people don’t think about human trafficking as a form of slavery, but it is. Most of the things that come to mind when talking about human trafficking are people being sold into sex shops or prostitution. But it can lead to other things as well. And many people think, “that doesn’t happen here.” But that’s the thing, it can happen anywhere.

I know, that’s a scary thought, but it’s the truth. We need to do what we can to stop this industry. If you are interested in what you can do, follow the link to an article from the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The first thing we can do to combat this to be aware of it. While I would love to go around with the mindset that this world is an extremely safe place, that’s not a reality. But we can make this world a safer place for everyone.
